Unlängst in im Kosmoscafe Gaga:rin, einem netten, unprätentiösen, vegetarischen, aber leider verrauchtem Lokal unweit der Uni, stieß ich auf die Leiberlkollektion Outlaw Legend, die den sogenannten Gesetzlosen Tribut zollt. Auf 16 Modellen werden die Gesetzlosen mit ihrem Portrait, ihren Lebensdaten und Motto in unterschiedlichen Farben und Größen verewigt, darunter sogar 5 Frauen, die als Piratinnen, Banditenköniginnen oder Brigantinnen gegen Ungerechtigkeiten kämpften. Nachzulesen gibt's dazu dann noch - soweit bekannt - die historischen Daten.

After all those years Duran Duran came back to Vienna for a concert. Though the location was not my favourite one (Bank Austria Halle at Gasometer - far out and far from brillian acoustics), last time I'd seen them in the Stadthalle near the city centre, I so much enjoyed the show: a proper life concert, old and new songs, great involvement of the band, interaction with fans had me and the other fans singing, dancing, shaking like a mad house. As proper kids of the 80ies everybody seemed to totally ignore the invite to tweet during the concert! The set list included many of the old favs and quite a couple of new songs. The only thing I really missed was Save a Prayer. Two hours later I knew for sure that time travel works & is so rejuvenating. Duran Duran took us back to the 80ies, and left all their fans happy feeling two decades younger (at least!).

Jan. 2, 2012: Me at the chocolate factory. What was usually scheduled for an hours or so, lasted for 2.5hrs. A visit at the organic bean-to-bar chocolate factory of Zotter based in the South of Styria, Austria, Europe. 2.5 hrs of mere pleasure of tasting and indulging in lovely chocolate beans, cream and bars. While our friends had already taken the shop by storm, we're still making our way through the bowels of the factory tasting all different sorts of solid and liquid chocolates. I've always been interested in sharing knowledge with otheres. That's why I've done a 2 day project work on knowledge work in 2009 and a seminar on the subject matter the last two days. It's a bit disappointing tought to realise that although you might have fabulous ideas in this field, you know you won't be able to realize them due to lack of support by your superiors. Any suggestions on how to deal with this problem?

I've just discoverd a sub-site of the Learning and Teaching Scotland website dedicated to Scotland's songs. This sub-site gives quite a nice overview over and some background information about Caledonian songs and tunes, including sound bites. I could even find samples of Puirt-a-beul, i.e. mouthmusic, reminding me so much about last years mini workshop on Puirt-a-beul, offered as part of the Celtic Connections music festival

Die von Goran Novaković ins Leben gerufene Leiberlmarke (od. neudeutsch T-Shirt-Brand) ist Teil des Sprachkunstprojekt Vayt & Brajt zur "Verschriftlichung der Vermischtheit“. Damit sollen die Einflüsse verschiedener Sprachen, vornehmlich der bosnischen, kroatischen, serbischen bzw. türkischen, im Österreichisch-Deutschen sichtbar gemacht werden.

Was auf den ersten Blick wie eine Fremdsprache aussieht, klingt spätestens beim zweiten Hinhören doch seltsam vertraut und erinnert mich noch dazu frappant an eine meiner ersten Tschechischstunden, in der wir mit tschechischen Zeichen geschriebene deutsche Wörter entziffern sollten. Eine recht clevere Übung, denn das war nicht nur ein spielerischer Zugang zum neuen Alphabet, nein, dadurch wurde auch gleich ein direkter Bezug zwischen den neuen Buchstaben und unserem bisherigen Referenzsystem hergestellt. Außerdem stellte sich heraus, das tschechische eine viel "ökonomischere" Sprache ist - also mit viel weniger Zeichen pro (deutschem) Wort auskommen kann :-)

My first BarCamp on social media back in December 2010 was really great and I'm also quite interested in India. How fortunate then that the blokes from Indische Wirtschaft - Stefan Mey and Wolfgang Bergthaler - organised an IndiaCamp in Vienna on Sat.30 April 2011.

Although one day is definitely much too short to cover all the diverse aspects of this huge country, we actually did quite well: econmic and business aspects, culture and intercultural issues, fotos, education, dance, cricket and of course Bollywood to name but a few sessions.The whole thing was spiced up by a lovely Southindian lunch and hot chai in the afternoon.

The people were almost as diverse as the topic of this BarCamp and came from all different paths of life: Austrians, Indians, Germans, Danes, ... journalists, students, entrepreneurs ...

The venue, by the way, couldn't have been better: namely the Hub Vienna - a spacious, airy loft with a friendly and inspiring atmosphere.

Starting from about 9.30 am the official programme ended some time around 7 pm but the inofficial chatting and networking went on till the early hours of the next day.

So I'm already looking forward to the next IndiaCamp which will hopefully last 2 days or even longer ...

I've only just come to discover the art of guerilla knitting or as I've read just now knit graffiti. Maybe I should get myself the book "Yarn Bombing - the Art of Crochet and Knit Graffiti" by M. Moore & L. Prain to get inspired for the KnitHerStory project celebrating the 100th women's day on 19 March 2011. Or maybe that one "Knit the City" by D. Knitshade

Something stunning, creative, innovative, disturbing ... alas, I lack inspiration at the moment ... any ideas out there...?

Schön langsam wird's ernst mit dem Guerilla-Knitting bzw. Strickismus Projekt KnitHerStory anlässlich des 100-Jahrjubiläums der 20.000-Menschendemonstration für Frauenrechte im Jahr 1911 (A.U.S.). Denn diese Woche hat sich meine Koordinatorin bei mir gemeldet und ich bekam mein einzustrickendes Objekt - eine Straßenlaterne - zugewiesen.

Jetzt stellt sich natürlich die Frage was zu tun ist bzw. wie das Objekt entsprechend bestrickt werden soll ... Vorschläge, Ideen, Anregungen werden gerne entgegen genommen. Allerdings bräuchte ich sie eher früher als später, da am 9. März schon das Verstrickerinnentreff stattfindet und bis dahin bräucht ich schon so eine ungefähre Vorstellung bzw. sollt auch schon mit dem Stricken / Häkeln begonnen haben.

Zur Inspiration hab ich mich auch schon mal im Netz umgesehen und bin dabein auf ein paar sehr nette eingestrickte Bäume gestoßen.

... werfen ihre langen Schatten voraus: Der 8. März und in Österreich noch mehr der 19. März 1911 respektive 2011. Die ersten Koordinationstreffen für die Aktionen und Demos fanden ja bereits letztes Frühjahr statt. Nun aber geht's in den Endpurt und es laufen bereits die ersten Aktionen an.

Sehr genial finde ich persönlich, die ich vor etwa 5 Jahren das Stricken wiederentdeckte, die Guerilla-Strick-Aktion KnitHerStory - also Frauen strickt - häkeln gilt, wenn ich's richtig verstanden hab auch - eure eigene Geschichte. Auf die Plätze und los! Lasst uns die Stadt einstricken!
